Looking for a world cruiser, we  wanted a ship large and heavy enough to be comfortable in rough waters, sufficiently strong to survive possible impact with containers, flotsam or rock without damage, a proper home with plenty of interior space and headroom, yet easily manageable by two people, and not too big to find a berth in marinas and harbours at reasonable cost.

After 40,000 miles’ experience,  Nereus has proved the perfect cruising yacht.    She sails beautifully, especially in stronger weather, and is both strong and comfortable.  I have occasionally single-handed her without problems.

A fine example of Robert van Dam’s design, she is built to German Lloyd’s standards by the Nordia yard at Aalsmeer, Holland, and is excellently equipped and maintained.   Handsome too, she has been complimented on her good looks all over the world; her rosewood panelling and furniture complement a lovely interior.  A 5mm steel hull and long, integral keel bring an important safety bonus.  Unlike many yachts, she has a fixed pilothouse- we call it the doghouse - which I regard as essential for blue water cruising to give permanent shelter from wind, rain and sun, to sail in comfort in all weathers.  Wet weather gear is little used aboard.  A generous engine room facilitates maintenance.

This is a very reluctant sale, but we must now revert to the dirt, set up house ashore again after seven wonderful years wandering the oceans.  I recommend Nereus most highly to her fortunate new master or mistress.
